In April 2018, the Helsinki City Council decided to sell the Jätkäsaari Bunker (Bunkkeri) to SRV Rakennus Oy. However, the final decision-making, i.e. the completion of the real estate transaction and the rent contract as well as the commitment of investors to the programme have been complicated by, among other things, an appeal submitted to the Administrative Court against Helsinki City Council’s decision to sell Bunkkeri to SRV Rakennus Oy.
The Administrative Court rejected the appeal against the City Council’s decision on 24 June 2020. An appeal against the Administrative Court’s decision has been submitted to the Supreme Administrative Court, which means that the decision issued by the Administrative Court on 24 June 2020 does not enter into force. The application for leave to appeal and the appeal filed in the case are currently being processed by the Supreme Administrative Court. The appeal will delay the implementation of Bunkkeri even further, and the schedule cannot be estimated in the current situation.
The intention is to use the former warehouse building and its new floors for building apartments, a public swimming hall and other sports facilities. The demolition work and the commencement of construction of Bunkkeri have been delayed several times due to the appeal process. Due to the delay of the programme, a temporary sports hall has already been built in connection with Jätkäsaari sports park for use by the adjacent comprehensive school.
The City of Helsinki will inform about the future steps in the decision-making regarding Bunkkeri as new information becomes available.
