The Vuosaari harbour is the main channel for the foreign trade of the entire nation and a considerable object for business.

Heat and innovation at the Vuosaari harbour

There are currently around 2,400 jobs at the Vuosaari harbour and in its vicinity. The harbour has about 2,000 ship visits annually and 8.2 million tonnes of cargo is shipped through it every year.

In connection to the harbour, there are some unreserved business plots owned by the city.

Helen Ltd is planning a 250 MW bioheat plant on its power plant area at the harbour. The bioheat plant is part of Helsinki’s push towards carbon-neutral energy production and it will be put into operation in 2024. The current power plants will be supplemented with a 13 MW seawater heat plant and there will also be a city refinery pilot project in the area.

Helen and Paulig are working together to find a solution that would allow the use excess heat from Paulig’s harbour centre roastery in the district heat network. Google's affiliated company Wing, which delivers food orders with drones, is also located in the area.
